Game console dev kits are typically _more_ expensive than the consoles they're for. So "full price" isn't a good argument. (The fact that they were available to the public is a stronger argument.)

It wasn't though, a full price would have been more, to cover not just components and assembly but the cost of R&D.

Game console dev kits usually cost more than the consoles they're for, not less. They're not mass produced at the scale that the consoles are, and they're sold or leased to companies expecting to make several orders of magnitude more back off the products they create with the dev kits.

There isn't a very direct comparison of Oculus products to game consoles like PlayStation, Nintendo, XBox, or those in the distant past. It is interesting, and they have a lot of the same market forces at play, but I don't think they behave by the same rules.

Unless there is a reason not to. Giving the user the contents of their own sandbox is fine if you're supposed to let them run anything in it to complete the requested tasks.

If the only purpose of the sandbox were to isolate the instance of the service the user used then it might be a different expectation.

Chips developed and controlled by the US. Taiwan is controlled by the US. Europe has no leverage.

Europe does not exist in AI. That is the sad truth, no need to try to pick hole in reality... It's quite healthy to listen to EU noise less because otherwise people tend to drink the kool-aid and believe that the EU (and Europe) is anywhere in most strategic developments (AI and related chips are particularly dire but also missed the boat on EV, struggling on renewables, nowhere in smartphones, etc). Yes, there is Arm so that's that (not in the EU).

And it doesn’t have to be a bad thing to not exist in AI given all the damage that is done by AI.

Yea. I've evaluated these AI development patterns 3-4 times over the past year while applying for jobs.

I've been told by currently employed engineers that I was at state of the art development after a week of using them each time.

This also seems to have played out in hiring as every interview I've managed to pull has been completely schizophrenic with the interviewers wanting me to show AI fluency(for whatever that means) and then seemingly panicking mid way through as I start using the AI that can immediately solve the bog standard interview questions and then switch to having me manually build things.
