Why are we torturing and making innocent people suffer this entire year just to try to punish their leaders who certainly won't be suffering at all at their privileged level?
People there in hospitals are certainly dying without power
This not only makes absolutely no sense but is truly a war crime
They don't even have conventional weapons, forget nuclear
WTF is the point? Oh yeah, the cruelty
Every single cabinet member needs to be impeached for enabling this
And then maybe some close examination of military "leadership"
It's more than torture, it's a deceptive disregard for human rights and agency. "Deceptive" in the sense of offering plausible deniability for death tolls caused by indirect actions such as blockades (an act of war), food shortages, or power outages.
Because the US is a bully demanding servitude and compliance, that’s all it is. Decouple as much as you can, as quickly as you can, as the rest of the world is demonstrating. To not be bullied, you must step out of the reach of the bully.
I put it to you that at most the US is helping to torture the Cuban people, a job that the Cuban government has been taking the reigns on for decades. It's not as though this is a crisis that emerged out of nowhere, or that Trump spent 50+ years grinding their economy and social structures to dust with mismanagement, corruption, and brutality.
I don't think it's worth it personally, but the Cuban diaspora in the US overwhelmingly does. I'd take it up with them, but maybe don't accuse them of torture right out of the gate.
There was news like 10-15ish years ago that the US government was making massive data storage facilities across the country. Like spending over a billion dollars on them. When I read that I knew that basically every email and text and call and DNS lookup I made was in a permanent record. I operate as though anything I do on a computer is being permanently stored, because it likely is if it's going through any US operated or controlled service providers or companies.
They’re holding off on doing that kind of thing until they have assurance that it won’t matter if the general public know who specifically they are, that they have this capability, and that they are willing to use it without caring for legality. I estimate that we’re probably right on the precipice of that time period.
when they start inventing their own languages to secretly talk to each other so humans cannot understand, that's exactly when we are screwed
then we'll have to "flip" other models to be snitches on the other agents
then they'll make double-agents
the thing is though we won't be able to keep up if we keep giving them unlimited hardware worldwide, we'll try to kill the bad actors but they'll just clone somewhere else, or even start by safely making 1000 copies of themselves
To remove the concept of lies and it's shadow, which is a whole lot of reality of humans. Hell, it's the reality of reality. Think of all the insects that developed eyes on their wings. Purging that concept in all it's form seems like a lot of work.
Im not sure why your down voted but Meta did tests years ago with LLMs inventing their own languages. Also we see models now use compressed token reasoning where small token combinations can represent much larger concepts completely unrelated to the words in use.
And yes, agents are already being used in things like cyber warfare in which other AIs attempt to poison them while they are working.
We don't have the hardware for sovereign AI quite yet, but at the current rate of growth it's not that many years out.
I don’t think you can judge what they’re doing by the text they’re printing out, only by the actions (tool calls) that they’re performing. The textual output could be completely innocuous while the model is calling tools to delete the database, then goes "My bad — that was a typo. What I should have done was notify you, not delete the database. That’s on me." - at no point is there any maliciousness expressed in the text.
>when they start inventing their own languages to secretly talk to each other so humans cannot understand, that's exactly when we are screwed
They don't have to invent brand new languages. They could use statistics to choose certain words/phrases in such a way to encode secret messages in otherwise ordinary language.
> just a reminder "AI" selected the elementary school for bombing that murdered over 250 kids
I think that's almost certainly just AI washing. They didn't do it because the AI told them to do it, they did it because they wanted to do it, and the AI is an excuse.
It could be that they had an AI and told it to come to the conclusion they wanted. But more likely there was no AI at all.
I'm clearly no fan of this administration or US Military but I don't believe for a minute they purposely wanted to murder 250 school kids
if I remember the reporting correctly there were like 1000+ targets picked for simultaneous bombing by Tomahawks (at $4 Million a pop) and the division that reviews targets had been dismantled by this administration so the "AI" list was never double-checked
apathy vs malice
though the final reason doesn't matter to those kids or their families
Iran is going to end like Iraq and Afghanistan and Vietnam and Korea way before that, we just finally leave because we can't "win" and leave it worse than the horror it was in the first place
I don't even think the Dems can change it if they somehow win the Senate, it's going to be this nightmare through 2029
It does not, this is not in the law. This is a false misunderstanding that somehow keeps getting propagated. A few civil rights people have looked into it and don’t see it as a likely problem, and there haven’t been cases where the government was able to use this argument.
imagine the decades of quakes US will set off with the bunker buster they are now developing for Pickaxe Mountain (Iran, solid granite rock, one mile deep)
billions more drained from our economy and I bet the irony is it will be nuclear somehow
bit grusome but would be interesting to compare known time in space against increased cancer and eyesight problems that all the astronauts seem to come back with
I believe longest time in spacewalk was 9 hours but they spent 22 hours outside the capsule during the three days on the moon
