In raw numbers of humans... "the early majority" surely would be those that use ChatGPT or Gemini (aka Google) and pay between $0 and $20 a month?

I would be surprised if the specialist that knows that various Chinese models exist and/or that a user might choose a harness and model separately are a "majority" even of the early variety... in terms of revenue, humans, tokens, or any metric.

I've spent my spare time in the last _days_ rewriting a pretty small document made in collaboration with Fable. It was reluctant to simplify the proposed design. And the language is so dense - it's almost poetic in nature and concision, but I wanted a clear discourse about a complex topic with people whose native language is not English.

It's an interesting model/tool. Powerful but still chock full of trade-offs. I hope the next model's language is more like e.g. OpenAI models in terms of language use. (oh, and the code comments, yikes).

Claude Code's creative use of language in an engineering context is often quite infuriating. I want language to be as simple as possible, it should be accessible and require as little context as possible. Below are a few examples that Code wrote that I encountered in my own work (related to signal processing):

"excursion" (means: a spike/jump — a value that rises or deviates from baseline, just say spike or outlier)

"legitimate majority-normal baseline" (means: a real majority of normal pixels)

"matched pool of pure-noise ('normal') pixels" (means: the same number of normal pixels, don't bring pools into this)

"ablation" (means: comparing before vs. after — turning a thing on/off to see what changes)

I actually used Claude Code to try and find examples like these but not entirely unexpectedly it had a very hard time detecting these, even though I encounter them like every other sentence. I can imagine this style is great when writing prose, not so much when writing documentation.

Similarly, I tried using Claude Design to make some slides, and the individual slides were fine, but just about every other slide it used different words to denote the same concept, which I would say is the fastest way to lose your audience.

Did you try specifically telling it that? I haven't used Fable but I do write lots of docs for a non native audience and I get good results from stating that.

I was curious to see they are advertising OLTP-like transactional processing speed. It would be super convenient to have one DB for OLTP and OLAP purposes!

(though I don't see any way to deal with write skew and other transactional guarantees - no SERIALIZABLE optimisitic concurrency, no SELECT FOR UPDATE pessimistic concurrency, etc)

We are very fortunate that my wife got to work at the local school. She now walks to work and I work from home about 4 days out of 5 workdays.

The benefits are huge in terms of time available and costs, and not needing childcare before or after school.

It’s hard to solve couples having two jobs in different places, but having at least one person get to work basically instantly and for zero cost is a massive boon to society.

The issue I saw is that the government department in charge of education is not the one in charge of housing and infrastructure, and there are no incentives to hire locally or make it easier to move locally. Instead you get teachers in suburb A travelling to suburb B and vice-versa, and no way that they can choose to swap roles. We lucked out.

Not to mention, the physical trades are not stopping taking on apprentices because... LLMs can't build a house? Not even the mundane bits.

It will be interesting how to get the financial incentives to train juniors in knowledge work to line up with the fact that every new generation needs to be trained.

I believe I read a post by Andrew detailing how he intentionally did marketting in a way to attract users, the right contributers, and donations - he was quite intentional about making his full-time role sustainable (and now more roles).

Is it not a web view? With nodejs capabilities from the “backend” half of the app for normal desktop app filesystem access etc?

If a Web View is not provided by a browser then it's an already installed browser then it's as they say "web rendering engine" that they ship along.

I'm trying to argue that it should already be available via Firefox, Chromium, etc on desktop.

Firefox doesn't release a webview engine but if they did I wonder if Linux distros would use it.
