Yep. The loophole is not hard to close, they could restrict the exemption to standby generators which only operate (1) in the event of a grid outage, and (2) for testing purposes.

For a genuine off-grid use case (eg: very rural locations), they could add a new exemption which allows installations up to X kW capacity per site where local grid connections do not exist. Set X large enough that it won't negatively impact applications like cabins or nature retreats, but small enough that it's not useful to a large operator like a datacentre.

Of course, this all requires a functional Congress... so good luck.


Why berate an LLM? That doesn't sound healthy. Sure, it's a machine, but it's simulating a social interaction - being a jerk to it could bleed over into interactions with real people.

Also, Westworld? These violent delights have violent ends? Perhaps there's a tinge of Pascal's wager to it, but I prefer to be courteous to the rapidly improving synthetic intelligences.


I didn't mean to imply I berate the LLMs. I don't do that. I talk to them as though they were intelligent and potentially sentient beings. When I see problems, I just correct them, take steps to prevent them in the future then move on.

I was just informing people that Anthropic gave Claude a tool that ends conversations and instructed it to use it via the system prompt if it's threatened or insulted.

Gitea (and its popular fork, Forgejo) are very lightweight. You can easily stand up an instance on a cheap VPS.

Citation needed. Canada's economic indicators are all extremely healthy, despite the trade war tantrum from its southern neighbour.


Canada has faced nearly a decade of weak per capita GDP growth and secular stagnation. Statistics Canada confirmed the country slipped into a technical recession after two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth in late 2025 and early 2026.


Neither of those imply "collapse," just that the economy could be doing better than it is. There's a vast continuum between "collapse" and "red hot." Canada's economy is doing just fine despite a few weak points.

And preliminary Q2 GDP numbers look very good, it appears the technical recession is most likely over (TBC once the final Q2 release is firmed up at the end of the month). Just two negative growth quarters when your southern neighbour has threatened to annex you by "economic force" is pretty damn good.

So, if I'm understanding correctly, this is just for lower bandwidth transfers of full BF16 weights over the wire, not for serving, correct? Have you benchmarked the performance against a SOTA general purpose compression algorithm like zstd?

Also, are all that many people handling the BF16 weights directly? GLM-5.2's reference deployment is FP8, and many vendors are even serving at NVFP4 which seems to offer negligible degradation over the FP8 reference deployments.

I have an RF engineering background, a nice mmWave vector network analyzer can easily land in that ballpark.

If the business value is there, companies will pay for it.

I have a similar setup using containerd/nerdctl and Kata Containers. Each OpenCode instance runs in its own little VM with mounted folders for context.


Yup, good call, I'll have to check those out. Not that urgent to me as I also happen to use colima for it's docker daemon interface. And, colima uses a full VM to host the containers, and you can further lock down the config to what is even allowed to vol mount so there's even another fs access restriction layer in play.


Not my field, but since they use SQUIDs I suspect most of the volume is taken up by cryo equipment. So, maybe if someone eventually discovers a room temperature superconductor.
