The presidio is huge though and has a ton of old military warehouses? Perhaps it could have taken one of the major commercial buildings already there. Is sports basement warehouse located entirely in the presidio or any of the other major commercial enterprises there really a better fit than a cool museum.

DDR5 is literally twice the price per GB. It's better for sure, higher bandwidth but waaaay more expensive. The 9800X3D supports much faster and even more expensive DDR5 than the 7800X3D too (DDR5-2667 to DDR5-5600).

You'll be looking for a while, looks like they're going for $600-700 used currently. You can get a used M1 Mac Mini for around $350 though. Macs don't depreciate nearly as quickly as PCs do.

I’m hopeful for even lower than $300 prices just because there’s a lot of homelab people spending a lot on these and the M5 ultra really does make the M4 not worth using for that use case. So there should be a flood shortly hopefully.

Apple trade-in value is currently $565 for the base 16GB/256GB M4 mini. (up from $480 a couple weeks ago)

That's really not a good proxy, as the base price of EVERYTHING was way lower in 2024. Heck, that M2 mini you're referring to is selling for more than $250 today.

Incidentally i always found the idea of an explorer grabbing the mysterious jewelled skull and getting cursed similar to the thought exercise of how we warn future cultures about the dangers of long term radioactive waste.
The warning needs to transcend language so you probably think a skull is pretty clear right? Put a big skull there, maybe make it light up or eye catching in some way just to really seal the deal? Surely they understand "don't go near this". Yet in a million years time you're probably going to get some explorer "finding the mysterious and cursed crystal skull" who will subsequently die of "the mysterious curse". It would have made a more interesting ending for that Indiana Jones movie that's for sure.

The US has bases around the world because its auxiliary fleet is rather limited. Its always an advantage to have supplies nearby because shipping or flying anything thousands or half way around the world is just too hard.
Lose those advantages and even the US military is troubled and the results are what we see today. It cant invade Iran and it cant even bomb or launch an invasion of Houthi territory.
Did i mention the Ospreys which were built because of the Tehran Embassy hostages from the 1980s are grounded today or limited to very short trips because of constant mechanical failures ?
